Ownes that Thomas Winters put Clarks Sayles in his house and acknowledges Richard Clarke was one morning at his house and he got up and Looked out and Saw Clarke to whom he said what does the do here, he Answered you have my Sayles and I am going to night. I owe you Tenn pounds here is a Warrt askt him to Entertain him and having a rapier in his hand he rushed by him and runn by him up Staires and Severall women came there but who they were he cannot say that Clarks wife came and told him that the Sloope was Seized p. 83 He imediately rusht out and bad God bless them all and went away. Clarke told him that he was not out Lawed for that four Burgesses had not given their Consents Robert ‘Tyler one Majr Greenberry another. Richard Snowden says that his father was in the house at the same time but knew nothing of Clarks being there for Some body ran up and desired them to be hush. Says that Thomas Wintersell came to his house and brought the Sayles and told him dick Clarke was at the pailes. That Silvester Welch Advised him to keep it to himself and not discover any thing and one Evidence Could do him no harme. Richard Snowden ordered to withdraw. And the Board having Considered of his Examination resolved he be Comit ted for Treason. Silvester Welch brought before his Excy and the Board Major Genl Hamond Charges him with Reporting that lett what will hapen to him he had a very Good Friend in the Councill that would lett him know of it before hand and dis cribed him to be such a person as the Major Genl that wore his owne hair rode a white horse and Generally tooke up his Quarters at Mrs Freemans. The Major Genll Bids him acquitt himself like a man and if he had any reason for such Expectation now to declare it to his face and this Boarde, Silvester Welch denys that ever he had said any such thing. His Excellency and the board tells Welch tht they have p. 84 Account of all his Vilanous Transactions and how Often he has harboured and abetted Richd Clarke and of his Coyning of Dolears and how he had entertained him and his Accom plices. And the Revelling at his house & fireing pistolls on St Stevens day last with Clark and Harrison when he broke the Cock of his pistoll and that when Iohn Welch and Thom Wintersell Came to his doore and knocked he tooke up his pistoll and Swore no Enemy to them should Come in alive. To all which the said Welch made no answer.
