approved of by the House and his Absence dispensed with

Mr Nicholas Lowe, Mr George Muschamp, Mr John Mackall,
& Mr John Macklaster ordered to attend his Excellency &
Council to acquaint them that the House is met according to
Prorogation & ready to receive his Excellency's Commands.
They return & say they have delivered their Message.
The Honble Robert Smith & James Sanders Esqrs from the
Honble Council enters the House & acquaints Mr Speaker
that his Excellency commands him and the whole House to
attend him immediately at the Council Chamber Whereupon
the Speaker and the whole House adjourned to the Council
Chamber where his Excellency was pleased to say to them as
follows Viz.
Mr Speaker & Gentlemen Delegates,
Tis very evident the treasonable villainous Practices of some
among us has encouraged the Indians to commit their Bar-
barities on Our Fellow Subjects. Those by their frequent
Insolences have put the Country to the Trouble & Charge of
keeping Men out to protect the honest painful Inhabitants on
that Frontier.
One great Motive these bold Incendiaries used to inflame
the unthinking Crew (who were to join in Concert with them)
was our Nakedness, Want of Ammunition, ill Arms &ca Cun-
ning Specious Pretences to bring their secret Contrivance to
an open Rebellion.
Gent. How these necessary Matters come to be wanted on
this or any other Occasion, I hope your tender Regard for the
