That there be a Duty of 1t Sterl p Gallon on Rum
Spirits and wine to be Imported in Country Bot-
toms deducting 20 p Cent for leakage which - 300.. — .. —
Computeing the Importation at 72000 Gallons p
annum besides the 20 p Cent will be.

NB It is Expected the 5 p Cent & the duty on Rum
Spirits and wine will Exceed the above Sums.


In order to Ease those who shall pay the Dutys already mentioned
it is proposed that Every Trader who Comes into this Province
to purchase Tobacco shall have a Sum paid him by the Naval
Officer of the port where he Shall Enter Equal to 3/9 in Bills of
Credit p hhd of all the Tobacco he Intends to Export and if upon
an Account to be given upon the Oath, or Affirmation if a Quaker
of such Trader it shall appear he has received less than in Propor-
tion for the Number of hhds by him Exported the rest to be paid
him, if more to return the Overplus, and to the End That these Bills
of Credit may be usefull and Advantagious to The Trader he is
by law to be enabled to pay for his Cask with them at 6 p Cent or
of the Quantity of Tobacco Contained in every Cask whereby it is
Conceived The Trader will have Ample Amends made him for pay-
ing the Duty in Regard the Bills of Credit he receives in Lieu of
that Duty will pay for the Cask which the Trader used to pay for
in Steri money or goods That every Freighter be paid 3/9 in Bills
of Credit for every hhd of Tobo he Ships That the Purchasers of
the Negroes and Importers of Rum Spirits and wine be repaid
the Sterling Duty they shall pay in Bills of Credit at 50 p Cent
advance and that there be an Equivalent in Bills of Credit at 50 p
Cent advance given to die Support of Schools in Lieu of that
1 1/2 p p hhd now Taken away.
That all the Quit Rents and Alienation fines be paid in Bills of
Credit at 50 p Cent Advance and that the duty of 20S Sterl on
Negroes which is payable in Bills of Credit be added to the Quit
Rents in order to pay the Severall Sums already mentioned and
whatever the Neat Ballance shall be Clear of all Charges to be
deemed publick money.
And The following Address to the Governor.

To His Excellency Saml Ogle Esqr Governour of Maryland.
The Humble Address of the Lower House of Assembly
May it please yr Excy
His Lordship having been pleased to return a Kind and generous
Answer to the Joynt Address of both Houses Concerning his Quit
Rents and Alienation fines and this House being of Opinion that
the said Rents and fines may be Collected so as greatly to Ease the
