Beloved Tho: Bladen Esq^r our Lieutenant Governor of our Prov-
ince of Maryland, [from Lord Baltimore, London.]
Having been Informed that a Sum of Money has been directed
to be raised in pursuance of an Act of Assembly Intitled an Act, for
the Better Defence & security thereof, you are not to suffer the sum
so Raised, to be Disposed off, for the Defraying of the Charge of
Suppressing the Indian Conspiracy unless the Assembly shall Con-
sent thereto, and to take Care that such Sum be Properly deposited
to be Disposed off as the Exigencys of Government may Hereafter

May It please your Excellency We have received your Excel-
lencies Letter of the 31^st July with a Paragraph of Governour
Shirleys Letter there inclosed and have Considered of the Same,
when we rec^d your Excellencies Letter we had Already sent two
Indians to the Northward to Enquire who were the Authors of this
Murder and they brought us an Authentick Account that it was
Committed by some of the Orondac we have formerly mentioned
to Your Excellency and we daily Expected some Mohawk Indians
from Canada and resolved to waite their Arrivall before we sent our
Interpreter to the Six Nations about the said Murder Committed
in New England, The Mohawks returned Last Fryday and we
Examined them Concerning what passed between the Indians of the
Six Nations and the French Governour, when they Informed us of
Sundry particulars the Minutes whereof of the 9^th Instant we send
here inclosed, but they were Either afraid or Ashamed to Tell us
the Truth. Since which Our Interpreter has Sounded A Trusty man
of the Mohawks in Private who Informed him of what we believe
has Actually past at Canada, the Contents of which is Contained
in the Inclosed minutes of this date. Your Excellency will thereby
perceive that the Canada Indians have all taken up the Hatchet
against the English, so that there is now an End of the neutrality
with the Indians and we must expect to be Attacked by them as soon
as they Conveniently Can, but what is still worse is That the French
Governour is about Setting our Indians against us which it seems
he has made the Chief point At this meeting and has Actually of-
fered them the Hatchet, against us which they have not Refused but
