New York 27.^th April 1760.
Sir

Colonel Howe, three days ago, delivered me Your Letter of the
10.^th Instant, Whereby I find, that notwithstanding M.^r Secretary
Pitt's Letter, containing His Majesty's disapprobation, of the past
Conduct of the Assembly of Maryland, and all Your Endeavors to
awaken them into a better Sense of their duty & Gratitude, they still
remain deaf to all kind of remonstrance; nothing therefore remains
with me, but to transmit a Copy of Your Letter with its Several
Enclosures, to M.^r Secretary Pitt, in order to be laid before the King,
that His Majesty may order therein as He shall advise; Meanwhile
I must not omit Assuring You, that I have not the least Doubt but
You have done every thing in Your Power to prevail on the Assembly
to Act a More Wise & dutifull Part.

Sir,

I had last Night the favor of receiving Your Letter of the 2.^d
Instant. It is with Astonishment that I See, that Your Lower House
of Assembly has not been prevailed on to Send up another Supply
Bill, than what has been already rejected Eight times, after the
Professions they made at the beginning of this Session of their
Readiness in Complying with His Majesty's Requisition.
I have nothing now further to say, than that I Shall Report the
Contents of Your Letter to M.^r Secretary Pitt by the first Oppor-
tunity: I am Sorry Your Endeavours have not met with better
Success.
