LAWS OF MARYLAND.—1839.
 

An ACT Supplemental to an Act, entitled, an Act relating to the Public
Roads in Talbot County, passed December session, eighteen hundred
and thirty-four, chapter three hundred and four. — 1839, ch. 70.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,

That from and after the first day of April next, if any taxable
inhabitant of Talbot county, when called upon according to the
provisions of the original act to which this is u supplement,
shall, without good reason, neglect or refuse to furnish their
respective proportion of hands, carts and teams, with the ne-
cessary utensils and implements to work the public roads, he,
she or they so neglecting or refusing, shall be liable to a fine
of one dollar for each and every hand, cart or team, he was
called upon to furnish under the provisions of said original act.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the fines hereby provided
for, shall be sued for and recovered at the instance of the
supervisors of the road, in the name of the state, before any
justice of the peace in said county, in the same manner as
small debts are recoverable by law, and when collected, they
shall be by said supervisor, paid over to the commissioners of
said county, to be applied by them for the repairs and uses of
the public roads of the county aforesaid.

AN ACT relating to the Sheriff of Talbot County.— 1839, ch. 184.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
from and after the first day of June next, the sheriff of Talbot
county shall have and receive twelve and a half per cent,
commission for the collection and paying over officers' and
attorneys' fees.

 

WORCESTER COUNTY.

A SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, an Act to abolish the Commissioners
of the Tax and Levy Court of Worcester County, provide for the elec-
tion of Commissioners for said County by the People, and to prescribe
their duties .—1839, ch. 64.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the commissioners elected under the provisions of the
original act to which this is a supplement, be, and they are
hereby authorized and empowered to appoint a clerk other
than the clerk provided by the original act, to discharge such
duties as were heretofore discharged and performed by the
clerk to the commissioners of the tax of said county.
