The Maryland State Board of Well Drillers was created by Chapter
684, Acts of 1968. The Board consists of seven members appointed by
the Governor for two-year terms by and with the advice and consent
of the Senate. One member represents the Eastern Shore, one repre-
sents Central Maryland and Baltimore City, one represents Southern
Maryland, and one represents Western Maryland. The regional mem-
bers must be licensed well drillers and be actively engaged in the
well drilling business in the State at the time of their appointment.
Of the remaining three members, one must represent the public at
large and be Chairman of the Board. One member represents the
Department of Water Resources, and one the Environmental Health
Services of the Department of Health.
The Board administers and enforces all provisions of the Well
Drillers Law. The Board is expressly vested with the power and
authority to make and enforce such rules and regulations in order to
carry out the provisions of the Act. The Board also gives examina-
tions to qualified applicants, issues, suspends and revokes licenses,
holds hearings in cases of the violation of provisions of the law or
any of the Board's rules or regulations, and in general, regulates the
business of well drilling in the State (Code 1957, 1964 Repl. Vol., 1968
Supp., Art. 96A, sees. 75-83).
