In 1972, the State Board of Registration for
Foresters was created (Chapter 638, Acts of
1972). The Board was assigned to the Department
of Licensing and Regulation in 1974 (Chapter 4,
Acts of the Special Session of 1973). The Board
examines and licenses persons wishing to engage
in the practice of forestry in Maryland.

The Board consists of seven members appointed
to five-year terms by the Governor with the ad-
vice and consent of the Senate. Five members
must be registered professional foresters appointed
from nominees recommended by the Maryland
Chapter, Society of American Foresters. They
must have engaged in the practice of forestry for
at least ten years prior to appointment.

Authorization for the Board continues until Ju-
ly 1, 1994 (Code 1957, Art. 56, sees. 299-319A).

The Board of Examiners for Hearing Aid Deal-
ers was created in 1969 (Chapter 634, Acts of

Licensing and Regulation/285

1969). The Board registers and regulates persons
furnishing hearing aids. It also tests audiometric
testing equipment and inspects the facilities of
persons who practice the fitting of hearing aids.

The Board consists of six members appointed to
five-year terms by the Governor with the advice
and consent of the Senate. One is a public mem-
ber who is hearing-impaired. One member must
be licensed to practice medicine in Maryland and
hold an American Board of Otolaryngology certif-
icate of qualification. One member must hold an
American Speech and Hearing Association certifi-
cate of competence in audiology and have had at
least four years of paid work experience in audi-
ology prior to appointment. The remaining three
members must be persons experienced in the sale
of hearing aids and be recommended by the
Maryland members of the Hearing Aid Dealers
Association of Maryland, the District of Colum-
bia, and Delaware. The Governor designates the
chairperson.

Authorization for the Board continues until Ju-
ly 1, 1994 (Code 1957, Art. 56, sees. 508-529).

OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS

The Maryland Board of Examiners of Land-
scape Architects was established in 1971 (Chapter
645, Acts of 1971). The Board became part of the
Department of Licensing and Regulation in 1973
(Chapter 4, Acts of Special Session of 1973). The
Board licenses landscape architects who desire to
practice in Maryland. It holds examinations at
least once a year and determines who may be ex-
empt from the provisions of the law.

The Board consists of five members appointed
to three-year terms by the Governor upon the rec-
ommendation of the Secretary of Licensing and
Regulation with the advice and consent of the
Senate. Three members must be registered land-
scape architects of recognized standing and must
have engaged in the practice of landscape archi-
tecture in Maryland for at least five years prior to
appointment. Additional members representing
the interests of consumers may be appointed by
the Governor.
