LAWS OF MARYLAND.
SEC. 10. And be if enacted. That there shall be-
three County Commissioners for Garrett county, who
shall have all the powers, and perform such duties as
are now conferred by law upon the County Commis-
sioners for Allegany county, and in addition thereto
may purchase land for the erection of the necessary
buildings for county purposes, and shall have power,
from time to time, to levy such tax upon the assessa-
ble property of Garrett county as may be necessary
for the erection of said public buildings, when, in
their judgment, the public convenience may require
said buildings for the use of said county.
SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That James Z. Brown-
ing be and he is hereby appointed to take the census
for district number one; Elijah M. Freind for num-
ber two; Charles Bell for number three; J. McClure
Mason for number ten; William Heinbaugh for
number eleven; D. Harrison Freind for number
fourteen; Ralph Thayer for number fifteen; Wil-
liam H. Barnard for number four; James Poland
for number sixteen; George W. Blocker for number
five; or so much of the three last named districts
within the lines of the proposed new county, prior to
the election for President and Vice President of the,
United States, in the fall of eighteen hundred and.
seventy-two, at the expense of the inhabitants of the
proposed new county, and shall make return, under
oath, to the Governor and the Clerk of the Circuit
Court for Allegany county, to be Toy him recorded in
the land records of said county, of the number of
inhabitants in the lines of the proposed new county,
and on application of five citizens of the proposed
new County of Garrett, the County Surveyor of Alle-
gany county shall at once run and locate the lines
of the proposed new County of Garrett, at the ex-
pense of said petitioners, and shall make a plat of
said lines and report the same to the Governor, the
County Commissioners and the Clerk of the Circuit
Court for Allegany county, to be by him recorded
in the land records of said county, said report to be
made under oath.
SEC. 12. And be it enacted, That at the election to.
