At a Session of the General Assembly of Maryland, begun
    and held at the City of Annapolis, on Monday, the 1st
    of November, in the year of our Lord 1802, and ended
    the 11th of January, 1803
 
                                    HIS EXCELLENCY

    JOHN FRANCIS MERCER, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

        THE FOLLOWING LAWS WERE ENACTED, TO WIT:

                                          CHAPTER I.
An Act relative to the continuance of Causes in the Court of Appeals,
    and to alter the time of holding the same.

CHAP. 1.

Passed Jan. 8, 1803.

    1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the court of appeals, now sitting, be and they are hereby authorised
to continue any cause depending in the said court until and
during their November term, eighteen hundred and two, which they
may in their discretion think proper, in order for a haring on the
merits, and not for delay.
Court may continue
causes.
    2.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That no action pending, or which may
hereafter be instituted, in the court of appeals, shall continue longer
than the end of the fourth court after the said shall have been
instituted, unless by consent of parties, at the discretion of the
court.

        See 1804, ch. 55, and 1805, ch. 16, abolishing the then court of appeals.
    3.  This section fixed the times for holding the court of appeals, which have since

been altered by 1805, ch. 65, s. 7, and other acts.

                                            CHAP. II.
An Act to settle and ascertain the Salary of Members of the Council
                for the ensuing year.

Passed Jan. 8, 1803.
    BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
each member of the council shall be entitled to receive, for the ensuing
year, the sum of two hundred pounds current money for his
salary.
Salary ascertained.

An Act for the relief of John Erskine, of Talbot county.  Lib. JG.

An Act to authorise and empower the Justices of the Levy Court of
    Charles County to levy a sum of money for the purpose of repairing

    the Poor-House in said County.  Lib. JG. No. 4, fol. 208.

Passed Jan. 8, 1803.
    WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, that the
poor-house of Charles county is in a situation that requires immediate
repair,
