CHAP.
    XI.

Ascertain damage,
&c.

                                LAWS of MARYLAND.

    III.  And be it enacted, That the commissioners aforesaid shall ascertain and
value what damage such road running through any person's land as aforesaid shall
amount to, which shall be paid to such person damaged as aforesaid by the said
Philip Shoal.

Road not to
go through
orchards, &c.
    IV.  And be it enacted, That the said road shall not go through any orchard,
garden or meadow, unless with the approbation of the owner.
                                            CHAP. XII.
An ACT for the relief of William Knott, of Montgomery county.  PR.
                                            CHAP. XIII.
            An ACT to relieve nonjurors from certain disabilities.
Treble tax
remitted, &c.
    BE it enacted, by the general assembly of Maryland, That the treble tax
which nonjurors were liable to pay, and which has been heretofore suspended
by any act of assembly, is hereby remitted, and the said nonjurors
are hereby for ever discharged therefrom.
Part of an act
repealed.
    II.  And be it enacted, That so much of the said act for the better security
of the government, as imposes a treble tax on nonjurors, be and is hereby repealed.
Methodists
not to be

fined, &c.
    III.  And be it enacted, That no person of the sect, society or profession, of
the people called Methodists, shall be fined for preaching the Gospel without
taking the oath or affirmation prescribed by the act for the better security of the
government, unless it shall appear that such Methodist, by his actions and conduct,
hath manifested a disposition inimical to the present government.
                                            CHAP. XIV.
An ACT for the benefit of Mrs. Rebecca Hanson and Miss Catharine Dulany.
                                                    PR.
                                            CHAP. XV.
An ACT for the relief of Edward Hargadine, a languishing prisoner in Queen-Anne's
                                        county gaol.  PR.
                                            CHAP. XVI.
An ACT to empower James Scott, administrator of Daniel Scott, deceased, to
        sell and dispose of part of two tracts of land in Harford county.  PR.
                                            CHAP. XVII.
An ACT for the more effectual paving the streets of Baltimore-town
                    in Baltimore county, and for other purposes.
Taxes to be
levied, &c.
    BE it enacted, by the general assembly of Maryland, That the following taxes
be levied in the town and upon the inhabitants of Baltimore-town, towards
paving, cleansing, and keeping in repair, the streets, lanes and alleys,
and for mending, building, and keeping in repair, the bridges within the
said town, viz.  On every foot front of improved and unimproved lots in those
parts of the streets fixed on to be paved, or that may have been already paved, by
the special commissioners appointed by an act, entitled, An act for the speedy application
of the money appropriated for repairing the streets in Baltimore-town in
Baltimore county, that is to say, twelve shillings and six-pence; and on every
foot front of improved and unimproved lots in those parts of the lanes and alleys
paved or to be paved, six shillings and three-pence; for every four-wheeled riding
carriage thirty shillings per year; chairs or sulkeys fifteen shillings per year;
drays twenty-five shillings per year; waggons and carts twenty-five shillings per
year; riding horses twenty shillings per year; an additional tax upon billiard tables
of fifteen pounds per year; a tax upon the playhouse of fifty pounds per
year; an additional tax of thirty shillings on every chimney catching fire; on
persons convicted in the county court of selling liquors without licence an additional
fine of thirty shillings; an additional tax of five pounds annually on tavern
licences; a tax, not exceeding two shillings and six-pence, on every hundred
pounds of assessed property within said town.
