CHAP 121.
 

LAWS OF MARYLAND.
parallel with the said alley, at the distance of one hundred
feet therefrom, that is to say, beginning at a point on the
side of the road leading from said alley to the steam mill
bridge at the distance of one hundred feet from said alley,
and running southward and pnrallel with the said alley the
whole extent of said alley, shall be as liable to the said acts
and its supplements, as the western precincts have hereto-
fore been.

CHAPTER 121.
An Act to incorporate the Port Deposit Library Com-
pany.

Subscriptions.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General. Assembly of
Maryland, That Thomas L. Savin, Henry H. Broughton
and Henry S. Stites, be, and they are hereby appointed
commissioners, at such time, and after such notice as they,
or a mnjority of them, shall think proper, to open hooks
and receive subscriptions for any number of shares not ex-
ceeding six hundred, of ten dollars each, one fourth part
whereof is to be paid at the time of subscribing, and the
remainder in such annual instalments as the president and
directors shall hereafter dirtect.

Sec, 2. And be it enacted \ That ,cn soon as fifty shares
shall he subscribed for, the said commissioners, or a majo-
rity of them, shall give notice thereof by public advertise-
ment, and appoint some day for the election of a president
and four directors, to be elected by ballot by the said stock-
holders, and each share shall be entitled to one vote.

Made a corpo-
ration.

Sec. 3. And he it enacted, That so soon as fifty shares
shall be subscribed, such subscribers, and their successors
and assigns, be and they are hereby made a corporation and
body politic, by the style and name of The Port Deposit
Library Company, and by that name shall be and are here-
by made able and capable in law to sue and be sued, plead
and he impleaded, answer and be answered, in any court
of law or equity in this state.

Powers

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That the said president and
directors shall be chosen annually from among the stock-
holders; and the said president and directors shall have full
power and authority to make rules and by-laws for the go-
vernment of said library company; they shall have power
to purchase books, maps, charts, periodical or other works,
