An act to repeal an act, passed at November session, eighteen

hundred and nine, chapter one hundred and nine, as re-
lates to the Market House Commissioners, and giving the
same powers to the Burgess and Commissioners of Williams-
port, in Washington county, under the act of Incorpora-
tion.

WHEREAS, it has been desired by the citizens of Wil-
liamsport, in Washington county, that the act of assembly
passed at November session, eighteen hundred and nine,
chapter one hundred and nine, giving authority and power
over the market house in said town, to certain commission-
ers, should be repealed, and that the said market house be
under the jurisdiction and management of the burgess and
commissioners of the said town — Therefore,

Preamble.

Section 1 . Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the act, entitled, An act to regulate the mar-
ket house in the town of Williamsport, in Washington coun-
ty, passed at November session, eighteen hundred and nine,
chapter one hundred and nine, be, and the same is hereby
repealed.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted. That from and after the pas-
sage of this act the market house in the town of Williams-
port, in Washington county, be, and the same is hereby
placed under the control, management, and direction of the
burgess and commissioners of the said town of Williams-
port, who shall appoint such officers as they may think ne-
cessary, who shall manage and control the same in any
manner they may deem wise and prudent, for the benefit
and convenience of the inhabitants of said town.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That should the rents of the
stalls and stands of said market house not be sufficient to
keep the same in repair, and to pay the charges which may
be allowed the clerk of the market, the burgess and com-
missioners aforesaid, may then have power to levy a just
and equitable tax on the assessable property within the cor-
porate limits of said town, for the purpose of keeping in
good repair and order, the said market house.
