796 BATTERY A, LIGHT ARTILLERY [1st], "RIGBY'S."

At the battle of Gettysburg, Pa., Battery A took part in the second and third days'
fight, having been posted on the extreme right of the line with the 12th Army Corps.

The battery continued on active duty until its consolidation with Battery B, Mary-
land Light Artillery, March 11, 1865.

The record of this battery, more especially whilst under the command of Captain
Rigby, was a brilliant one, and reflected great credit upon the battery and the State.

Battery A, Maryland Light Artillery, incurred the following losses by death during
its term of service, viz.: Killed in battle, six enlisted men; died of wounds, disease, etc.,
twenty-eight enlisted men; total losses by death, thirty-four enlisted men.

Battery A, Maryland Light Artillery, participated in the following battles during
the Civil War, viz.: Malvern Hill, Va., July 1, 1862; Crampton's Gap, Md., September
14, 1862; Fredericksburg, Va., December 13, 1862 ; Marye's Heights, Va., May 3, 1863;
Salem Heights, Va., May 3-4, 1863; Gettysburg, Pa., July 2-3, 1863.

NOTE."The battery was organized under Cap. Jno. W. Wolcott and was under his
command at battles of Malvern Hill, Fredericksburg, Crampton's Gap and Antietam."
