the librarian of the Library Company of the Baltimore bar such copies
of the reports, laws, journals and documents of the State of Maryland
of which he may now have duplicates and of which he may have dupli-
cates from time to time as new volumes are published, as can be spared:
from the state library, not exceeding in each case two copies of such
volumes. The remainder of said reports shall be deposited in the
state library.

11. The sum of five hundred dollars shall be appropriated annually
for the purchase of booka and maps for the augmentation of the
library, to be expended under the direction of the committee named in
section 12.

12. The judges of the court of appeals, or a majority of them, are
hereby authorized to appoint a committee of three or more persona to
serve without compensation, who shall have the power and authority
to purchase from time to time such books, maps and periodicals as
they may deem advisable for the use of the state library, and said
committee may draw on the treasurer of the State from time to time
for such sums of money as may be necessary to pay for said books, maps
and periodicals, not to exceed, however, the sum annually appropriated
for the augmentation of the state library.

13. The said committee are hereby authorized to pass such rules
and regulations as they may deem necessary and proper for the con-
duct and management of said library; provided such rules and regu-
lations be not inconsistent with law.

15. The governor, by and with the advice of the library committee
created by section 12 of this article, is authorized and empowered to
appoint a person as indexer and cataloguer of the state library who
shall hold his office for the period of two years, or until his successor
is duly appointed and qualified, and who shall receive a salary of six
hundred dollars per annum, payable in monthly instalments by war-
rant of the comptroller upon the treasurer. It shall be the duty of
the said indexer and cataloguer to attend daily at the state library on
each day that the same is open and there continue the work of index-
ing and card cataloguing under the system now adopted and carried
