NEGATIVE—None.
Said bill was then returned to the Senate.
Mr. Goldsborough, (the rules being suspended,) submitted
the following order:
Ordered, That the Chief Clerk forward to the members of
the House all Journals remaining over after adjournment,
and proture stamps for that purpose.
Which was adopted.
The Speaker laid before the House the following commun-
ication from Hon. C. W. Lewis.
BY THE HOUSE OP DELEGATES,
April 3d, 1876.
Hon. L. C. Smith, Speaker of House of Delegates:
I respectfully tender to the House of Delegates, through
you, my resignation as a member of this body, and ask that
the same may be spread upon the Journal of the House.
I cannot take this step, Mr. Speaker, without thanking
you and the House of Delegates cordially, for the very con-
stant and uniform courtesy shown towards me by you all.
Leaving you with the very kindest feelings,
I am dear sir,
Tours very truly,
C. W. LEWIS.
Which was read, and
On motion of Mr. Lambdin,
Was accepted.
The Speaker delivered the following address:
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:
Three months ago I left my home in Western Maryland, to
take my seat as a member of this Body,
Personally acquainted with none of you, save these from
my own county, I was truly a stranger among you. These
