1832.

occupied, in whole or in part, by the said Compay, with-
out the limits of the city of Baltimore, and that nothing
herein contained shall authorize the stockholders of the
company hereby incorporated, or the president and direct-
ors thereof, at any time to prescribe or exercise any mode
of municipal government or of police, in any town or
place owned or occupied by the said company, but the po-
pulation of such town or place shall be subject to the pre-
sent laws of this State, and such alterations thereof as
shall from time to time be authorized by the General As-
sembly, who shall also regulate and limit the distance to
which any wharves or either improvements shall be extend-
ed from the shore in any navigable water by the said com-
pany, or under their authority, within this State.

CHAP. 97.


Sec. 10. And be it enacted, That nothing herein con-
tained, shall be taken or construed, so as to authorize the
said Company to establish a banking institution, or to ex-
ercise, directly or indirectly, any of the privileges of a
bank.

Sec. 11. And be it enacted, That this act shall be and
continue in force until the first day of January, eighteen
hundred and fifty-five, and until the end of the next ses-
sion of the General Assembly, which shall happen there-
after.

Act limited to 1845

Sec. 12. And be it enacted, That the concerns of the
said Company shall be at all times subject to, the inspec-
tion of the Treasurer of the Western Shore, or such other
officer of the State as may be selected for that purpose
from time to time, by either branch of the Legislature.

An act for the relief of Joseph Wood, former Sheriff of
Calvert county.

Passed Feb. 28, 1833

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Joseph Wood, former Sheriff of Calvert
county be, and he is hereby authorised to collect, until the
first day of January, eighteen hundred and thirty-four, all
fines, forfeitures, amerciaments, officers fees, or public dues,
which weie plated in his hands for collection, and all legal
fees made by him while Sheriff, or that he was entitled to
by virtue Of laid office of Sheriff, and which have not been
