VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS.

TUESDAY, November 3, 1807.

MONDAY, the second instant, being the day appointed by the constitution and form of government for the
meeting of the general assembly of this state, several of the members of this house accordingly met on that
day, but a sufficient number of members to proceed to business not appearing, the house adjourned until to-day,
when the following members appeared, viz.

A sufficient number of delegates being convened, they severally qualified in the presence of each other, by
taking the several oaths required by the constitution and form of government, by subscribing a declaration of
their belief in the Christian religion, and by taking, repeating, and subscribing, the oath to support the con-
stitution of the United States.

The house proceeded to ballot for a speaker; the ballots being deposited in the ballot box, on examination
thereof it appeared, that the honourable Tobias E. Stansbury, Esquire, was unanimously elected.

Mt. John Brewer was unanimously appointed chief clerk. ORDERED. That he be qualified as such, by taking the
several oaths required, by subscribing a declaration of his belief in the Christian religion, and by taking an
oath that he will honestly, faithfully and diligently, discharge the. office of clerk to the house of delegates, and
that he will not reveal or disclose the secrets thereof.

Mr. John Sanders was unanimously appointed assistant clerk. ORDERED, That he be qualified as such, by taking
the several oaths required, by subscribing a declaration of his belief in the Christian religion, and by taking an
oath that he will honestly, faithfully and diligently, discharge the office of assistant clerk to the house of dele-
gates, and that he will not reveal or disclose the secrets thereof.

The, house appointed Mr. Cornelius Mills sergeant at arms. ORDERED, That he be qualified.

Mr. Francis M. Hall, a delegate returned for Prince-George's county, appeared, and after qualifying in the
mode prescribed by the constitution and form of government, and taking the oath to support the constitution

of the United States, took his seat in the house.
THE house, proceeded to. ballot for a door-keeper; the ballots being deposited in the ballot box, the gentlemen.
named to strike retired, and after sometime returned and reported, that John Sullivan was elected. ORDERED,
that he be qualified.
On motion, the question was put, That the house appoint an assistant door-keeper? Determined in the ne-
gative.
