4 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1807.

On motion, ORDERED, That Mr. Muir inform the reverend Mr. Wyatt, that the house request he will per-
form Divine service every morning at the meeting of the house.

The following resolution was read the first and second time by especial order.

Whereas John Trueman rendered essential services to his country during the revolutionary war, and contri-
buted his aid in the establishment of the American independence: And whereas he has for a number of years
discharged the duties of door-keeper with fidelity and satisfaction to the house of delegates of Maryland, and
is now become infirm and inadequate to the duties thereof; therefore, RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the
western shore of Maryland be and he is hereby directed to pay the said John Trueman, annually, in quarterly
payments, the sum of ——— dollars, during his life.

And the question was put, That the blank therein be filled up with the words " two hundred ?" Resolved in
the affirmative.

The question was then put, That the house assent to the said resolution? Resolved in the affirmative.

The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

WEDNESDAY, November 4, 1807,

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings, of yesterday were read.

Mr. W. H. Brown, a delegate returned for Saint-Mary's county, Mr. David Kerr, junior, a delegate return-
ed for Talbot county, Mr. Solomon Frazier and Mr. Hugh Henry, delegates returned for Dorchester county,
Mr. Benjamin Biggs, a delegate returned for Frederick county, and Mr. Peter Emerson, a delegate returned for
Calvert county, appeared, and after qualifying in the mode prescribed by the constitution and form of govern-
ment, and taking an oath to support the constitution of the United States, took their seats in the house.

ORDERED, That the printer to the state be requested to furnish the house of delegates with six copies of the
votes and proceedings of the last session of the general assembly of Maryland.

The speaker laid before the house a letter from the auditor-general, enclosing the western shore treasurer's
account, as charged on the auditor's books, from the 1st of November, 1805, to the 1st of November, 1807,
and an estimate of the state debt, made up to the 1st of November, 1807; which were read.

Also a letter from Benjamin Harwood, trustee, enclosing an account current of funded stock to the 31st of
October, 1807, and an account current of interest and principal received on said stock to the same period;
which were read and ordered to lie on the table.

The house proceeded to ballot for five committee clerks, and the ballots being deposited in the ballot box, the
gentlemen named to strike retired, and after sometime returned and reported, that David L. Jacob, George Win-
chester, John S. Skinner, Nicholas Martin and Wallace Dixon, were elected. ORDERED, That they be qualified.

On motion, ORDERED, That Mr. Stone and Mr. T. Dorsey wait on his excellency the Governor, and inform
him that the house of delegates has. convened, and ready to proceed to public business, and to receive any
communications he may think proper to lay before them.

On motion, the question was put, That the house proceed to ballot for a committee to inspect and examine
the returns of elections, and to report whether they have been made agreeably to the constitution and form of
government? Resolved in the affirmative.

The house proceeded to ballot for said committee, and the ballots being deposited in the ballot box, the gentle-
men named to strike retired, and after sometime returned and reported, that Mr. Kerr Mr. C. Dorsey, Mr.
Shriver, Mr. O. Williams and Mr. Forwood, were elected.

ORDERED, That they have power to send for persons, papers and records.

On motion, ORDERED, That Mr. Carroll, Mr. Mitchell and Mr. Davis, be a committee to report such rule
as are proper to be observed during the present session.

The house proceeded to ballot for a committee of claims, and the ballots being deposited in the ballot box, the
gentlemen named to strike retired, and after sometime-returned and reported, that Mr. Hawkins, Mr. Merriken,
Mr. Gale, of Kent, Mr. Briscoe, Mr. Holbrook, Mr.. Mitchell and Mr. Davis, were elected.

The house proceeded to ballot for a committee of grievances and courts of justice, and the ballots being depo-
sited in the ballot box, the gentlemen named to strike retired, and after sometime returned and reported, that
Mr. T. Dorsey, Mr. W. H. Brown, Mr. W. Merritt, Mr. Bowles and Mr. Little, were elected.

ORDERED, That they have power to send for persons, papers and records.

The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

THURSDAY, November 5, 1807.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.
Mr, Thomas Moffit, a delegate returned for Caecil county, appeared, and after qualifying in the mode prescribed
by the constitution and form of government, and taking an oath to support the constitution of the United States,
took his seat in the house.

ORDERED, That the committee of claims procure weekly one copy of the Maryland Gazette for each member
of the legislature.
