that now is for Kent County afd upon their Oath doe present that
Rebecca Davis Late of S.t pauls parish in the County afd Spinster
the tenth day of June Anno Domini Seventeen hundred twenty
and Nine at the Parish afd in the County afd within the
Jurisdiction of this Court did Commit fornication with a Certain person to the
Jurors afd unknown and did permit the Same unknown person then and there to have
Carnal knowledge of her body and to beget then & there a bastard Child on y.e body per
The Same Rebecca to the high Displeasure of Almighty God to y.e Evil Example of all
others in Such Case offending Contrary to the peace of y.e Said Lord prop.ry it now is
his good Rule and Government and against the form of y.e act of Assembly in y.t

    And the afd Rebecca Davis in her proper person Comes and Defends Saith that
She gainsay the Indictment afd So as afd against her brought nor but that She is
guilty of the premises above upon her imposed as by the afd Indictm.t it is alledged
and thereupon Submits to the Court  Therefore it is Considered by the
Justices here to with At the Court house in the Town of Chester in Said County on
the third tuesday in March being the Seventeenth day of March Anno Dom. Seventeen
hundred and Twenty Nine  That the Said Rebecca Davis pay the Sum of thirty
Shillings Current money Debt According to Act of Assembly in Such case lately made
and provided for her offence of Committing fornication as afd and also pay the Sum
of two hundred fifty Eight pounds of Tobacco Cost Accrueing on the premises afd to
the officers of this Court

    Ordered by the Court here that the Same Rebecca prove upon her oath
the person that was the begett.r  Thereupon She being Sworn do Serve that a
certain George Copper Jun.r was the begett.r of her Said Child as She is above
charged with

                    Ordered by the Court here That Joseph Young Sherf of
Said County keep the afd Rebecca in Custody untill the fine and fees afd Shall
be Satisfied &c.a
