20                            August Court 1728

Verdict of the Jurors afd against the afd Phill.e Church &
the afd Phill.e being asked what he had to say why Judgm.t
should not pass against him on the verdict afd upon
which he pleads his Lordship most gracious pardon wch
is produced Accordingly & his plea allowed which is as
followeth viz.t

    And now here at this day comes the afd Phill.e Church
in his proper person into Court according to ^ the tenor of ^ his Recog.c
afd and saith that the right honourable the Lord prop.ry
that now is by his Letters pattent of his Special grace
hath pardoned and remitted unto him the said Phil.e the
Suit of his peace and whatsoever appeareth unto him the
said Lord prop.ry for that the said Phil.e here fore viz.t On the
last day of May Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred & twenty seven
with force and Arms at Shrewsbury parish in the County
afd One barrow hogg of the value of two hundred pounds of
tob.o of the goods and Chattles of a Certain John Wrightson  then &
there being found then & there feloniously did Steal take
and bear away whereof the same Phil.e is Commit & granted
to wit the said Phil.e his pir in peace and willed that he
suffer not any Corporal punishment therefore and
that the same Phil.e be in the same plight state and
Condition as if the same felony had never been Committed
and brings here into Court the Letters pattent afd testifying
the premisses which follow in these words to wit

    Charles Absolute Lord and prop.ry of the province
of Maryland and Avalon Lord Barron of Baltemore
&c to all our Baillifs and Good people of whom
these presents shall Come know yee that of our
Special Grace we have pardoned unto Phil.e Church
late of Kent County Labourer as a proper Object of our
Mary the suit of our peace & whatsoever appertaineeth
Unto is for that the said Phillemon heretofore
viz.t On the tenth day of May Anno Dom Seventeen
hundred and twenty seven with force & Arms
