for the purpose of defining the waters of said river
lying south of said line and extending to the Maryland
and Virginia boundary line, so that the waters lying be-
tween said lines may be used in common by the citizens
of the States of Maryland and Virginia for the taking of
oysters, crabs and fish under the Compact of 1785 be-
tween the two States.

WHEREAS, The States of Maryland and Virginia have
already adopted the southern boundary of said river and

WHEREAS, The Maryland or northerly side of the Poto-
mac River has many coves, inlets, indentations, and rivers,
contiguous or emptying into the Potomac River from the
shores of Charles and St. Mary's Counties, which are not
properly buoyed, charted, or identified on charts or maps
of record to distinguish same from the Potomac River
proper, and

WHEREAS, It would be of benefit to the citizens of the
States of Maryland and Virginia that the Maryland shore
be better defined for the purpose of determining the rights
of the citizens of either State to oyster, crab and fish in the
waters of the Potomac River, now

Be it therefore Resolved, That the Conservation Com-
missioner of Maryland be and he is hereby author-
ized, empowered and directed, on or before June 1,
1934, to confer with the Commissioner of Fisheries
of Virginia and any authorized commission or committee
of Virginia, appointed by the Governor of that State or
its General Assembly, for the purpose of establishing the
northerly line on the Maryland side of the Potomac River
to better define the waters of said river which may be
used in common by the citizens of the two states, as pro-
vided for above, and to report such recommendations as
may be agreed upon between the States of Maryland and
Virginia to the Governor of Maryland before the General
Assembly of this State next convenes in regular session;
and be it further

Resolved, That the Governor of Maryland cause a copy
of this Joint Resolution, under the Great Seal of Maryland,
to be sent to the Governor of Virginia.
