(House Joint Resolution 4)

House Joint Resolution on the death of the late
William Curran.

Whereas, the late Hon. William Curran has died since
the last session of the General Assembly; and

Whereas, Mr. Curran, early in life, began taking an
interest in government and in political affairs; and

Whereas, after studying law, he was engaged, for a
while, in editorial work relating to legal and judicial ques-
tions; and

Whereas, during a busy, active and highly successful
career in the practice of law, he did a great deal of reading
in the field of government and the philosophy of political
science and government; and

Whereas, during his busy life, he served as a member
of the Board of Liquor License Commissioners of Baltimore
City and as a member of the Supervisors of Elections of
Baltimore City; and

Whereas, he was elected a member of the Baltimore
City Council and a member of the Maryland State Senate,
in which positions he took an active interest in legislation;
and

Whereas, he served for a period in the important posi-
tion of Attorney General of the State; and

Whereas, during all of his busy adult life, he took an
active interest in public and political affairs and was, for
many years, one of the ablest political leaders in Baltimore
City; and

Whereas, in all the positions to which he was elected or
appointed, he served with great ability; and

Whereas, in his death, the City of Baltimore and the
State of Maryland lost a competent and able citizen, who
rendered outstanding service in public affairs as well as in
political affairs; now, therefore, be it
