JOINT RESOLUTIONS

No. 1
(Senate Joint Resolution 16)

Senate Joint Resolution expressing the deepest regrets of the Gen-
eral Assembly over the passing of the Honorable C. Andrew Shaab,

The Members of the General Assembly of Maryland, meeting in
regular session during the year 1956, have learned with the deepest
regret of the passing of the Honorable C. Andrew Shaab of Howard
County.

Mr. Shaab compiled what is perhaps an unprecedented record of
service to the General Assembly of Maryland. For 52 years, he has
attended every session of this body, regular and special. He began
as a page at the session of 1904; six years later, in 1910, he be-
came the Senate engrossing clerk. In 1916 until 1935, he was reading
clerk and from that time on until his passing in 1956, he has been
the Secretary of the Senate of Maryland.

"Andy" Shaab was known, respected and beloved by thousands
of members of the General Assembly of Maryland, past and present.
His genial personality and encyclopedic knowledge of the legislative
processes will be sorely missed. He spent so many years in service
to the members of the General Assembly, that in their minds he has
been personified as Mr. "State House". The Members of this body
have lost a good friend, a devoted public servant and a gentleman
who served this legislative body according to the highest traditions
of his State and County.

The Members of the General Assembly wish to record a simple but
eloquent testimonial to their high regard and to their affection for
"Andy" Shaab. His friendship was a privilege given to every mem-
ber and officer of the General Assembly and to every employee in
the State House. While deeply mourning the occasion of his passing,
his many thousands of friends yet now draw inspiration from the
long years of steadfast service which he gave to this body; now,
therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the deepest
sympathies and regrets of this body be expressed in the passing
of the Honorable C. Andrew Shaab, of Howard County, for 52 years
an employee and officer of the Senate of Maryland; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of the State of Maryland be directed
to prepare a copy of this Resolution under the Great Seal of the
State of Maryland and suitably endorsed by the Governor of Mary-
land, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of
