(House Joint Resolution 5)

House Joint Resolution requesting the Congress of the United States
to enact HR 4996 which is a Bill to establish an effective program
to alleviate conditions of substantial and persistent unemployment
and under employment in certain economically depressed areas.

WHEREAS, there has been introduced into the House of Repre-
sentatives of the Congress of the United States HR 4996 which is
a Bill to establish an effective program to alleviate conditions of
substantial and persistent unemployment and under employment in
certain economically depressed areas; and

WHEREAS, in the judgment of the members of the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, this is a vital and important Bill which should
promptly be enacted into law; and

WHEREAS, the members of the General Assembly of Maryland
subscribe to the purposes of this Bill and agree that its enactment
would be of much benefit to economically depressed areas through-
out the country; and

WHEREAS, the members of the General Assembly of Maryland wish
to give full assurance to members of Congress and other federal of-
ficers in Washington that they are supporting the principle of HR
4996 introduced by Mr. Foley; now therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That this body
supports the purposes and the principle of HR 4996 which has been
introduced into the House of Representatives of the Congress of the
United States in order to establish an effective program to alleviate
conditions of substantial and persistent unemployment and under
employment in certain economically depressed areas; and be it
further

Resolved, That the Secretary of State of Maryland be instructed to
send copies of this Resolution under the great seal of the State of
Maryland to the Committee on Banking and Currency in the House
of Representatives of the Congress of the United States and to each
member of the Maryland delegation in the Senate and in the House
of Representatives.

Resolution extending the duration and reporting dates of the Com-
mission authorized under Joint Resolution 30 of 1959 (H. J. R. 7)
to study the general insurance laws of the State.
