House Resolution No. 4—By the Speaker:
House Resolution of Appreciation to President John F. Kennedy for his
Declaration of a Disaster Area in Ocean City and Vicinity.
WHEREAS, on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week the Atlantic
Ocean Coastline of Maryland from the Virginia border to the Delaware
line was seriously damaged by wind and water causing many millions
of dollars of damage to the shore line and to properties and businesses;
and
WHEREAS, the President of the United States has advised the Governor
of Maryland by telegram as follows:
"I have instructed all departments of the government to provide
the fullest support possible. A representative of the Office of Emer-
gency Planning will be in touch with you and your staff immediately.
He will aid you in determining the amounts of federal assistance
needed and will advise you regarding the requirements for a disaster
declaration. The distress suffered by the people in the stricken area
is of deep concern to me and I am hopeful that the situation may
rapidly improve. "
now therefore be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates of Maryland, That we express
to President John F. Kennedy our deepest thanks for his immediate action
in declaring Ocean City and its vicinity a disaster area; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution is sent to President Kennedy.
