CHAPTER 30
(House Bill 27)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 10-15 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Anne Arundel County (1957
Edition, being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title "Chapter 10.
Fire Protection, " sub-heading "Article II. Organization-Division 2.
Enginemen, " as amended by Chapter 676 of the Acts of 1959, to
change the number of enginemen of fire companies in Anne
Arundel County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 10-15 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Anne Arundel
County (1957 Edition, being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "Anne Arundel County, " sub-title "Chapter
10. Fire Protection, " sub-heading "Article II. Organization-Division
2. Enginemen, " as amended by Chapter 676 of the Acts of 1959, be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

10-15.

The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County shall appoint
and dismiss, upon the recommendation of the said Volunteer Fire
Companies, two or more enginemen for each of said companies, and
in addition thereto, the necessary relief enginemen to substitute for
the regular enginemen when the latter are off on vacation or sick,
as hereinafter provided; AND THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MAY APPOINT ADDITIONAL ENGINEMEN FOR EACH OF
SUCH COMPANIES. Any person recommended by said fire
companies for appointment as regular engineman after January 1,
1954, shall be required to satisfactorily pass an examination con-
ducted by the Board of Fire Commissioners to determine his qualifi-
cations, provided that those enginemen employed prior to January
1, 1954, shall be allowed to continue in such employment without the
necessity of passing such examinations. The County Commissioners
are hereby directed to levy a special tax in each election district
sufficient to pay the salaries of the engineman and relief engineman
of the several Volunteer Fire Companies and to pay the salary of each
engineman and relief engineman.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1962.
