The next order of business was the election of a permanent presiding
officer.

The Hon. Frederick C. Malkus, seconded by the Hon. H. Winship
Wheatley nominated the Hon. William S. James for President.

On motion of Hon. Harry Hughes, seconded by the Hon. James A.
Pine, the nominations were closed.

The roll was then called, which resulted in the following:

The Hon. William S. James was unanimously elected President of
the Senate.

The Senator from Prince George's County and the Senator from Cal-
vert County, were appointed to escort the President to the Chair.
