LAWS OF MARYLAND 1966

MARYLAND, Sct:

At a Session of the General Assembly of Maryland, begun and held
in the City of Annapolis on the Nineteenth Day of January
1966, and Ending on the Twenty-ninth Day of March, 1966,
J. Millard Tawes, being Governor of the State, the follow-
ing Laws were enacted, to wit:

CHAPTER 1

(House Bill 127)

AN ACT to add new Section 527A to the Charter and Public Local

Laws of Baltimore City (1949 Edition), being Article 4 of the

Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title

"Baltimore City," subtitle "Police Commissioner," subheading
"Organization of Force," said new section to follow immediately
after Section 527 thereof, providing for the position of Acting
Police Commissioner of Baltimore City and generally relating
thereto.

Whereas, The incumbent Police Commissioner of Baltimore City
has announced his retirement effective February 3, 1966, and

Whereas, It is imperative that a competent person be appointed

to serve as Acting police Commissioner until such time as the

Governor of Maryland may appoint a permanent Police Commis-
sioner of Baltimore City, now, therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,

That new Section 527A be and it is hereby added to the Charter

and Public Local Laws of Baltimore City (1949 Edition), being
Article 4 of the Code of Public Laws of Maryland (1930 Edi-

tion), title "Baltimore City," subtitle "Police Commissioner," sub-
heading "Organization of Force," said new section to follow imme-

adiately after Section 527 thereof and to read as follows:

527A.

The Governor of Maryland is hereby authorized, when a vacancy
exists in the office of Police Commissioner of Baltimore City, to

appoint an Acting Police Commissioner, and when so appointed
under the provisions of this section, the Acting Police Commissioner
shall serve at the pleasure of the Governor. The
Acting Police

Commissioner so appointed shall have during the time in which he

acts as Police Commissioner, all the powers and duties conferred
