Charter Amendment Resolution Number 1970-1

A Resolution of the Commissioners of Aberdeen, adopted pursuant
to the authority of Article XIE of the Constitution of Maryland and
of Article 23A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replace-
ment Volume of the 1957 Edition and Amendments thereto), title
"Corporations—Municipal" to amend the Charter of The Commis-
sioners of Aberdeen by repealing and re-enacting Sections 4(a),
5A, 5G and 5H of the Code of the Public Local Laws of Harford
County (1965 Edition and Amendments thereto), title "Harford
County," subtitle "Aberdeen" changing provisions concerning the oath
of office taken by the Commissioners, eliminating an obsolete provi-
sion, correcting capitalization of certain words, stipulating that a
candidate for Commissioner must be a registered voter, limiting the
time for filing certificates of nomination to on or before 6:00 P.M.
on the third Monday in April next preceding the Town election, and
clarifying the use of voting machines.

Section 1. BE IT RESOLVED, ORDAINED and ENACTED by the
Commissioners of Aberdeen, by authority of Article XIE of the Constitu-
tion of Maryland and of Article 23A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1966 Replacement of the 1957 Edition and Amendments thereto) that
Sections 4(a), 5A, 5G and 5H of the Code of the Public Local Laws of
Harford County (1965 Edition and Amendments thereto), title "Harford
County," subtitle "Abderdeen" be and the same are hereby repealed and
re-enacted with amendments, to read as follows:

(4a) Elections. All qualified voters residing within the corporate
limits of Aberdeen shall elect five Commissioners of Aberdeen for terms
of two years or until their successors are duly elected and qualified. For
this purpose the [board of elections] Board of Supervisors of Elections
shall hold an election on the first Tuesday in May, 1966, for the election
of three Commissioners and on the first Tuesday in May, 1967, for the
election of two Commissioners. The Commissioners who shall have been
elected shall as soon as possible after the election take the following consti-
tutional
oath or affirmation before [a Justice of the Peace of the State of
Maryland] any officer authorized to administer oaths under the laws of
the State of Maryland:

["I, ................................, make oath or affirmation before Almighty

God that I will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of the Com-
missioners of Aberdeen to the best of my ability, so help me God."]

"I, .............................., do swear, (or affirm, as the case may be), that

I will support the Constitution of the United States; and that I will be
faithful and bear true allegiance to the State of Maryland, and support
