JOINT RESOLUTIONS

with numerous persons, including legislators, executive
officials, bar associations, and judges. The Commission
considered many aspects and facets of judicial compensation as is
shown in the report of its 1983 activities. The Commission by a
vote of 5 or more of its members has recommended judicial
salaries for fiscal year 1985; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, As recommended
by the Judicial Compensation Commission, beginning July 1, 1984,
judicial salaries, including any increases in salary which result
from a general salary increase for State employees, under Section
1-703(b) of the Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article, shall be
as follows:

Courts of Appeals

Chief Judge                                             $72,000

Associate Judge                                      69,500

Court of Special Appeals

Chief Judge                                             $68,500

Associate Judge                                      67,000

Circuit Courts

Bench Judge                                             $65,000

District Court

Chief Judge                                             $67,000

Associate Judge                                      57,000

which range from 11.2% to 13.8 13.9% higher than the salaries in
effect during fiscal year 1984; and

WHEREAS, The General Assembly finds no justification for
increasing the salaries of the judges of the State of Maryland in
fiscal year 1985 by a percentage greater than the percentage of a
general salary increase which may be granted to State employees
during fiscal year 1985; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
fiscal year 1985 salaries of the judges of State of Maryland
be increased by a percentage equivalent to the percentage
increase, if any, granted to State employees through a general
salary increase in fiscal year 1985 as appropriated in the fiscal
year 1985 State budget (budget code 26.01.07.01), pursuant to
Section 1-703(b) of the Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
fiscal year 1985 salaries of the judges and chief judges of
Maryland's Judiciary be increased by 9 percent, in lieu of any
general salary increase granted to State employees in fiscal year
1985 pursuant to Section 1-703(b) of the Courts and Judicial
Proceedings Article.
