SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 48A - Insurance Code

327.

(b) (1) A society may make provision for the payment of
funeral benefits to the extent of such portion of any payment
under a certificate as might reasonably appear to be due to any
person equitably entitled thereto by reason of having incurred
expense occasioned by the burial of the member, but the portion
so paid shall not exceed the sum of [five hundred dollars ($500)]

$5,000 $2,500.

(2) If, at the death of any member, there is no
lawful beneficiary to whom the insurance benefits are payable,
the amount of such benefits, except to the extent that funeral
benefits may be paid as hereinbefore provided, shall be payable
to the personal representative of the deceased member.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1988.

AN ACT concerning

Group Life Insurance - Reimbursement for Funeral
and Other Expenses

FOR the purpose of altering the maximum amount which may be paid
under a group life insurance policy to cover the expense of
the last illness and funeral of the insured person when
there is no designated beneficiary.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
