Jinkins Miller, is the servant or slave of the said Edmund North for a term
of years by virtue of a Bill of sale, executed in due form of law, by a certain John
E. Stevens of Dorchester County and recorded among the records of said County, in Liber
W. I. N.o 3 folio 48 of Chattel records, which last mentioned Bill of sale refers to a
previous one, executed in due form of law by a certain Thomas J. Pattison to
said Stevens, and recorded among the records of Dorchester County in Liber W. I.
N.o 3 folio 16, by which said Bill of sale from Pattison the said negro was
conveyed for a term of years to expire on the twentieth day of May in the year
Eighteen hundred and sixty one, and then to be free; And the said Court being also
satisfied by the proof that the said Negro Jenkins hath absconded from his
owner.  Now therefore it is by the said Court in consideration of the Premises,
this twenty eighth day of January in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty, ordered
and adjudged that, for the purpose of indemnifying the said North for all expenses
and loss occasioned by the absconding of his said servant, the term of service of
the said Jenkins Miller be, and the same is hereby extended for the further period
of two years, that is to say, untill the twentieth day of May in the year Eighteen
hundred & sixty three; provided that any sale made of said Negro by said North, or
any person claiming from or under him, shall be by Bill of sale in which the
whole of this order shall be inserted, and which shall be duly recorded according

Know all men by these presents that I, Edmund North, of Baltimore City
in the State of Maryland, for divers good causes & considerations, me hereunto moving,
have made, ordained, authorised, nominated, constituted & appointed, and by these presents
do make, ordain, authorise, nominate, constitute & appoint Lewis P Ross, of the
same place, my true & lawful Attorney, for me & in my name, place & stead, to
talk to Cambridge, Dorchester County, state aforesaid, my Negro Man Jenkins Miller,
black complexion, aged about twenty eight years, and when there to sell & dispose of him
the said Jenkins Miller to any person who may purchase him.  The said Jenkins Miller
is to serve untill the 28.th day of May in the year Eighteen hundred & sixty three
(1863) when he is to be free and to do all other lawful acts & things whatsoever,
concerning the premises, as fully & in every respect, as I myself might or could do
were I personally present at the doing thereof, and Attorneys one or more under
him, for the purposes aforesaid, to make, and again at his pleasure to revoke,
hereby ratifying, allowing & confirming whatsoever my said Attorney, shall in
my name lawfully do, or cause to be done, in & about the premises, by virtue
of these presents.  In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this
ninth day of February in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and fifty.
