1997 JOINT RESOLUTIONS

WHEREAS, The fans spending at hotels, restaurants, local attractions, and retail
establishments would generate approximately $753,000 in State tax revenues and
approximately $277,000 in county tax revenues - all during the last week in February,
traditionally a slow period for the hospitality industry; and

WHEREAS, The CIAA will accept bids in the summer of 1998 from interested
localities for the tournament years 2000 through 2002; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That in order
to compete with Winston-Salem in the bidding, Prince George's County will have to
provide a package worth more than $2 million to the CIAA, which would consist of a
guaranteed ticket sellout, facility fee waivers, sponsorship of tournament events, value
added incentives, and most important to the CIAA schools, scholarship funding; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That the Commission shall consist of: (1) Two members of the Senate
of Maryland, appointed by the President of the Senate; (2) Two members of the House of
Delegates, appointed by the Speaker of the House; (3) Two representatives appointed by
the County Executive of Prince George's County; and (4) Two representatives appointed
by the Governor. The Governor shall designate the chairman of the Commission; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded by the Department of
Legislative Reference to the Honorable Parris N. Glendening, Governor of Maryland; the
Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; and the
Honorable Casper R. Taylor, Jr., Speaker of the House of Delegates.

A Senate Joint Resolution concerning

Victims of the Holocaust - Assets in Swiss Banks

FOR the purpose of supporting and encouraging the ongoing efforts of certain
governmental entities and private organizations who are investigating the complex
issues surrounding Holocaust assets held by Swiss banks.

WHEREAS, Evidence has come to light that assets of Holocaust victims were
deposited for safekeeping in Switzerland's largest private banks or were taken by the Nazi
regime from Holocaust victims' families and businesses and deposited with Switzerland
banks; and

WHEREAS, The General Assembly recognizes the importance of the ongoing
efforts to redress the terrible suffering of Holocaust victims; and
