    fore I prayed his Honr to take some Care to prevent farther B. M.

    Damage, but he was pleased to tell me Day was a Vessell of Vol. 25

    force & well man'd & for want of Men & Armes to suppress

    them there was noe help for they would doe what they

    pleased, I told his Honr I thought such fellows ought not to

    haue a Comicion wthout security that if any one was Damni

    fyed they might come on the Security. But in the Hight of

    these distracions your Excy was pleased so farr to Considr the

    King's interest & that of his Subjects to send a force of men

    to seize Capt Day & his Crew of Rogues which was Effect

    ually done, but then this Governmt that could not protect

    themselves from fifty Rogues could presently raise men

    enough to resque those fellows from the Kings forces wch

    were of a greater number, nay, wch was more when the Com

    mander of the Kings forces came to the Governr he threatned

    to comitt him for seizing those Rogues by vertue of his Com

    mission & told the Livett that they were honest men & that

    they were not Seizeable, when I was informed of this I prayed

    the Livftt to goe wth me to the Governr and I would Justify to

    his face the matter Contained in your Excys Comand what I

    haue here set forth wch accordingly I did as the Lievett can

    fully inform your Excy Upon wch he was pleased to treat the

    Lievtt more civilly and resolved to take new measures by

    Sommoning his Councill but noe care taken to secure the

    men for his Mates Service There has been measures vsed to

    Possess the people wth prejudice & tht you have acted illegally

    but the men of Sence of all sorts do think your Excy haue

    done the King & this Country good service Especially all

    men of Trade I am sure I will give such Acct of the matter

    to my Imployers, as will oblidge them to Acknowledg your

    Excys favour my worthy freind Coll. Quary will bring all the

    deposicions relating to this affair to your Excy to whom I

    wholy reffer your Excy knowing him to be very Zealous for

    your service So beging pardon for this trouble must beg
