much Contended for & Even refused to give up to the Crown,
and therefore we must entreat Your Lordships to Excuse our
Complyance in this Affair, and that your Lordships will be
favourably pleased to approve of the Law made this Sessions
in relation thereto and accept Such fines as shall arise thereby
dureing the Continua of that Law as a Gratefull Acknowl-
edgemt of the many favours we have of late received undr
your Lordships Govermt.
From the Indulgences yor Lordships have already Given us
on our Late Address we are Encouraged to make known to yr
Lordpps the Great want of Good Liturature within this Prov-
ince whereby many good Genius's are of Little use that might
otherwise be Ornamts to the Countrey & Serviceable to yr
Lordships Interest the funds at present raised for the Support
of Schooles being very Inconsiderable except wt arise from the
Impost of Is p pound by the Statute of the Twenty fifth of
Charles the Second Cap 7th on the Exporteing Tobo hence to
Sundry his Majtys Plantations, which by his Late Majty King
William the third of pious Memory was applyd to the Support-
ing a free School in Virginia wch by its Remoteness from this
Province renders it wholly useless to any of its Inhabitants.
We therefore humbly begg your Lordship's remembrance
of us when any opportunity shall offer to your Lordships for
the Advancement of this Province in soe necessary a part.
We return your Lordships our hearty thanks for the
answers of the Rt Honble ffrancies Lord Guilford to our
former address and the Assurances therein given of protect-
ing us in the Protestant religion as also in our Civill Rights &
Libertys neither of which we think in the least danger undr
your Lordships declared resolucons of Governmt having an
Intire Confidence in your Lordships Constant adherence to
the true faith of the Church of England and in the prsent
administration of your Lieut Governour, who, amidst the
various Shocks he has met with, we may with boldness affirm,
has, with a resolute Constancy Endeavourd to promote your
Lordpps truest Interest here by Defending the Honr of your
Lordships Governmt and the Rts & Priviledges of the People
under it with Impartiality; by whose Exhortation and Gen-
erous Example we shall never be wanting to shew a true
Christian Principall of Charity in laying aside & Endeavour-
ing to remove all feuds & animosities amongst us and Since
your Lordships have been pleased to accept of our humble
Opinions in relation to the affaires of this your Province so
we beg leave to assure your Lordships that we shall always be
very Sincere therein and so farr value our Rights & privi-
ledges as to. make Justice & reason the Rules of our Actions
