tributions of many persons, and time of course prevents my naming
them all. Certainly, Mayor Griscom's interest was important. So too was
the support of Elmer Jackson, the editor of the Annapolis Evening
Capital, and the cooperation of numerous other leaders of Annapolis
and Anne Arundel County.

The two firms we welcome today depend largely on the talents of
professionals in the fields of electrical, electronic, and mechanical en-
gineering, physicists, statisticians, and specialists in propulsion, struc-
tures and aerodynamics. They are highly trained people, welcome in
any community not only for their knowledge but for the contributions
their backgrounds enable them to make to the civic, fraternal and
social environment in which they live. They are particularly cognizant
of the importance of education in today's space age. The presence
here today of Joseph W. Alton, Jr., Anne Arundel's new County
Executive under its modern charter form of government, is their assur-
ance that the educational and other facilities of this county will keep
abreast of the requirements of today's challenges....

The basic function of Aeronautical Radio makes Annapolis the air-
lines communications center of the United States. In addition, Arnic
Research Corporation plays a key role in the reliability of systems
in our national space effort which literally reaches from here to the
moon. We welcome you gentlemen and your companies. We wel-
come your several hundred employees. We are delighted that your
contemplated two and one-third million dollars annual payroll will
strengthen the local economy, and that your new 1. 5 million dollar
plant, with its 60, 000 square feet of space, will add to the State's
scientific capacity. In making you welcome, we are not unmindful of
our responsibility as a State and Community to make your professional
pursuits fruitful and your personal participation in community affairs
rewarding. We will be calling upon you to help us enlarge and strengthen
the scientific community that is growing apace in the Baltimore-Wash-
ington region.

Welcome aboard. Together we are beginning a voyage which we
know will raise bountiful landfalls for you and your companies as well
as for Maryland and its residents.
