GENERAL ASSEMBLY COMPENSATION COMMISSION

The Governor appointed the members of this special commission in
1970 following the ratification of a Constitutional Amendment by the
voters at the general election held on November 3, 1970 (Chapter 576,
Acts of 1970; Const. 1867, Art. Ill, sec. 15). The Commission consists
of nine members of whom two were nominated by the President of the
Senate and two by the Speaker of the House of Delegates. All mem-
bers will serve until May 31, 1975, at which time terms will be for four
years. Members of the General Assembly, and officers and employees
of the Maryland State government or county, city and other govern-
mental units of the State are not eligible for appointment to the Com-
mission. The Commission was created to determine the compensation
and allowances due the members of the General Assembly. It submitted
its report on January 28, 1971 and will make no further reports to the
General Assembly until 1975.

The Maryland Commission on Intergovernmental Cooperation, orig-
inally created by Chapter 331, Acts of 1937, had its membership re-
constituted by Chapter 37, Acts of 1964. The Commission consists of
twelve members appointed by the Legislative Council. Six members are
members of the Senate and six members are members of the House of
Delegates. These members include ex officio, the President of the Sen-
ate, the Speaker of the House of Delegates, and the majority and
