Created by Chapter 547, Acts of 1972, the State
Board of Examiners for Audiologists evaluates the
qualifications ofaudiologists in the State and issues
licenses to those who fulfill the requirements.
Licenses are renewed annually.

The Board consists of six members appointed for
five-year terms by the Governor on recommenda-
tion of the Secretary of Health and Mental Hy-
giene. Three members must be professional audiol-
ogists, one must be a professional speech patholo-
gist, and another must be a person licensed to
practice medicine in Maryland and hold an Ameri-
can Board of Otolaryngology certificate of qualifi-
cation. One member must be a consumer, ap-
pointed with the advice and consent of the Senate
(Code Health Occupations Article, secs. 2-201
through 2-206).

Authorization for the Board continues until July
1, 1994 (Chapter 81, Acts of 1983).

The State Board of Chiropractic Examiners,
created by Chapter 666, Acts of 1920, examines
applicants for licenses, investigates all complaints,
and reports them to the State's Attorney if neces-
sary. The Board holds two examinations each year
in March and September. It has power to investi-
gate and ascertain whether schools of chiropractic
meet the requirements of the law. Each person
holding a chiropractic license in Maryland must
renew it annually with the secretary of the Board
(Code Health Occupations Article, sec. 3-304).

The Board consists of four members. Three must
be practicing chiropractors, who are appointed by
the Governor upon recommendation of the Secre-
tary of Health and Mental Hygiene from a list of
five names submitted by the Maryland Chiroprac-
tic Association. The fourth member is a consumer
appointed by the Governor upon recommendation
of the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene
with the advice and consent of the Senate. Mem-
bers serve three-year terms.

Authorization for the Board continues until July
1, 1988 (Chapter 170, Acts of 1981).

Established by Chapter 150, Acts of 1884, the
State Board of Dental Examiners regulates the
practice of dentistry by testing the qualifications of
candidates for licenses in dentistry and in dental
hygiene.

All applicants for license to practice dentistry
must be graduates of dental colleges duly incorpo-
rated to grant degrees in Dental Surgery by the
laws of one of the United States or Canada. All
applicants for a license to practice dental hygiene
must be graduates of a school for dental hygienists
approved by the State Board of Dental Examiners.
Examinations, held twice every year, are both
written and practical. Every dentist and every
dental hygienist must register annually.

The Governor appoints the Board's ten members
for six-year terms with the advice of the Secretary
of Health and Mental Hygiene (Code Health
Occupations Article, secs. 4-201 through 4-208).

Authorization for the Board continues until July
1, 1989 (Chapter 626, Acts of 1982).

created by Chapter 851, Acts of 1978, as amended
by Chapter 715, Acts of 1979. The Board adopts
