The Senate met

Prayer by Rev. Mr. Kinzer.

Present at roll call the following Senators :

Brattan, Claggett, Davis, Denson, Earle, Fields, Knight,
Longwell, Lloyd, Mudd, McCulloh, Phelps, Stevens, Steiner,
Spencer, Suit, Tuck, Williams, Walsh—24.

The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved.

Mr. Tuck presented the petition of Joseph I. Duvall, of
Anne Arundel county, praying the passage of a law direct-
ing the County Commissioners of Prince George's county, to
refund taxes wrongfully collected from him.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance.
On motion by Mr. Blake, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that the Senator
from Garrett county is absent from his seat on account of
severe illness.

On motion by Mr. Brewer,

Leave was granted Messrs. Brewer, Blake and Longwell
to introduce a bill entitled au Act to provide for the taxation
of Dogs, in Montgomery county.

On motion by Mr. Earle,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to report
a bill to give greater protection to the Funds of the State.

On motion by Mr. Billingsley,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Education to in-
troduce a bill entitled an Act to repeal sections 1 and 3 of
chapter 2, section 4 of chapter 3, sections 1 and 5 of chapter
o, section 2 of chapter 6, section 3 of chapter 8, section 2 of
chapter 10, section 2 of chapter 11, sections 2 and 8 of chap-
ter 12, section 1 of chapter 13, and section 2 of chapter 18 of
an Act passed January Session, 1872, chapter 377, entitled
an Act to repeal an Act passed at January Session, 1870,
entitled an Act to repeal an Act passed at January Session,
1868, entitled Public Education, providing a general system
