It gives me much pleasure to report to the members of the Hall of
of Records Commission that during the fiscal year 1951 there was only
one change in the professional staff. On the first day of the year, that is
July 1, 1950, Mrs. Gary T. Peebles became Senior Stenographer succeed-
ing to the position formerly held by Mrs. Flora M. Jones, who had resigned
on May 31, 1950. I am also pleased to report that Mrs. Jane Revell Moss,
who retired November 30, 1949, continued to give us one day's work
every week in the repair room on a voluntary basis.

For some years now the maintenance staff has been under the control
of the Department of Public Buildings and Grounds. Until this year it
has been possible to report the names of the men assigned to us as watch-
men, but under the new administration a system of rotating watchmen
from one building to another has made this task next to impossible. I am,
therefore, reporting only the names of those men who were here for most
of the year. I regret to say that we have lost the services of Oriando Duvall,
who had been a watchman for several years. I am sorry to note, too, that
one of our watchmen, Daniel C. Taylor, Sr., was drowned in November,
1950. The cleaners have been with us for many years, Martha Scisco
being the only original member of the Hall of Records staff still in our
employ.

During the coure of the year the office of the State Employment Com-
missioner made a survey of the staff of the Hall of Records and at this
writing his recommendations have been received. However, since no
changes have been made as yet, little would be gained by reporting details.

When the new fiscal year began July 1, 1951, salary increases author-
ised by the General Assembly took effect. In some cases the increases were
substantial, and every employee of the Hall of Records Commission bene-
fitted in some degree.
