PLAN OF THE WARDS.

THE undersigned, duly appointed by the governor of Maryland,
commissioners under an act of the General Assembly of Maryland,
passed at December session, 1844, chapter 282, entitled "An act to
provide for the division of the city cf Baltimore into twenty wards,
and for ether purposes," three of said commissioners being residents
west, and the other two east of Jones's falls—hereby make a return,
under their hands and seals, that they have divided the said city cf
Baltimore into twenty wards in accordance with the said law, and that
they have located eight of said wards east of Jones's falls, and the
remaining twelve of said wards west of Jones's falls; which said eight
wards east of Jones's falls they have designated by the numbers, one,
two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight, respectively: and which
said twelve wards west of Jones's falls they have des gnated by the
numbers, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen,
seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, and twenty, respectively. The metes
and bounds of said wards are as follow:

1st ward.— Beginning where a line drawn along the centre of Broad-
way would intersect the water of the north-west branch of Patapsco
river, and running thence northwardly along the centre of Broadway to
a line drawn along the centre of Bank street, thence easiwardly along
the centre of Wolfe street to a line drawn along the centre of Fayette
street, thence eastwardly along the centre of Fayette street to a line
drawn along the centre of the Philadelphia turnpike road, thence easi-
wardly along the centre of said road lo the eastern boundary line of
the city, thence southwardly along said line to the water of the harbor,
thence along said water to the place of beginning.

2d ward —Beginning where a line drawn along the'centre of Broad-
nay would intersect the water of the north-west branch of the Patap-
sco river, and running thence northwardly along the centre of Broad
way to a line drawn along the centre of Bank street, and thence west-
wardly along the centre of Bank street to a line drawn along the cen-
tre of Exeter street, thence northerly along the centre of Exeter street
to a line drawn along the centre of Fawn street, and thence westward-
ly along the centra of Fawn street to the centre of Jones's falls, and
thence southwardly along the centre of Jones's falls to the water of the
city dock, and thence bounding on the water of the said dock and of
the north-west branch of the Patapsco river to the place of beginning.

3d ward —Beginning where a line drawn along the centre of Wolfe
street would intersect a line drawn along the centre of Bank street,
running thence northwardly along the centre of Wolfe street to a line
drawn along the centre of Fayette street, thence westwardly along the
centre of Fayettt street to a line drawn along the centre of Canal street,
thence southwardly along the centre of Canal street to a line drawn
along the centre of Bank street, and ihence eastwardly along the cen-
tre of Bank street to the place of beginning.

4th ward.—Beginning where a line drawn along the centre of Ca-
nal street would intersect a line drawn along the centre of Bank street,
running thence northwardly along the centre of Canal street to a line
drawn along the centre of Fayette street, thence westwardly along the
centre of Fayette street to the centre of Jones's falls, thence south-
wardly along the centre of Jones's falls, to a line drawn along the cen-
tre of Fawn street, thence eastwardly along the centre of Fawn street
to a line drawn along the centre of Exeter street, thence southwardly
along the centre of Exeter street, to a line drawn along the centre of
Bank street, and thence along the centre of Bank street to ihe place of
beginning.
