CHAP. 132.

Proviso

ferred or appertaining to this corporation; Provided, that no
power, not expressly given to said president and directors
shall be exercised by the said board, which is incompatible
with resolutions passed at the several meetings of stock-
holders as aforesaid.

Directors to act

Sec. 6. And be it enacted, That the present directors
shall act as such until the next annual meeting.

Not authorised to

establish a bank-

ing institution

Sec. 7. And be. it enacted, That nothing herein con-
tained shall be taken or construed so as to authorise the said
company to establish a banking institution, or to exercise
any of the privileges of a bank.

Legislature not

rstricted from

levying tax

Sec. 8. And be it enacted, That nothing herein contain-
ed shall be construed to restrict the right of the legislature
at all times during the continuance of this act, to levy and
collect such reasonable tax upon the funds of this corpora-
tion as may comport with any general system of taxation
adopted by the state.

Duration

Sec. 9. And be it enacted, That this act shall continue
in force until the expiration of the year 1845, and until the
end of the next general assembly which shall happen there-
after.

Passed Feb 25, 1829

An Act altering and changing the name of Andrew Jack-
son Guyton, to Andrew Jackson Clingan.

Name changed

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the name of Andrew Jackson Guyton, of
Washington county, be and the same is hereby altered and
changed to Andrew Jackson Clingan; and it shall and may
be lawful for the said Andrew Jackson Guyton, at all times
hereafter, to be called and known by, and hold and use the
name of, Andrew Jackson Clingan, and by the name of An-
drew Jackson Clingan, to purchase, sell, convey or demise,
to sue and be sued, in any court of law or equity; and that
all securities, promises, contracts, assurances, deeds, and
lawful acts whatever, hereafter to be made or done by or to
the said Andrew Jackson Clingan, shall be of the same force
and effect, and equally available, to all intents and purposes,
as if the name of Andrew Jackson Clingan had been his
true and proper name.

Rights, & c extend-

ed to him

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That all rights and privileges
which are now enjoyed by the said Andrew Jackson Guy-
ton, and that all liabilities to which he is now subject under
the name of Andrew Jackson Guyton, be and the same are
hereby continued and extended to him under the name of
Andrew Jaskson Clingan.
