that the same is deficient in quantity five acres, and praying to be reimbursed for the same, was preferred, read,
and referred to Mr. Hebb, Mr. Watts and Mr. Neale, to consider and report thereon.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, A further supplement to an act, entitled, An act for di-

rection of sheriffs and coroners in the return of jurors, and for the better regulation of juries. ORDERED, That
Mr. Lloyd, Mr. Somervell, Mr. R. Mackall, Mr. Waters and Mr. Plater, be a committee to prepare and bring

in the same.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to prevent free coloured persons from selling
wheat, corn or tobacco. ORDERED, That Mr. Lloyd, Mr. Shaaff and Mr. R. Mackall, be a committee to pre-
pare and bring in the same.

The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

TUESDAY, November 19, 1805.

The house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to provide for the election of the governor by the

people, and to abolish all those parts of the constitution and form of government which relate to the council

the governor, and the time and manner of electing the governor, and for other purposes. ORDERED, That Mr.
Watts, Mr. Mercer, Mr. Van-Horn, Mr. Montgomery and Mr. Hyland, be a committee to prepare and bring

in the same.

A petition from Frederick Green, printer to the state, praying an advance of six hundred dollars on account
of the salary that may be allowed him on the civil list, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Montgomery,
Mr. Shaaff and Mr. Forwood, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Jacob, Matthias, George and Christian Sedgwick, of Baltimore county, praying that a law may
pass to change their names from Sedgwick to Adreon, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Ellicott, Mr.
Stephen and Mr. Harryman, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Watts, from the committee, delivers to the speaker, a bill, entitled, An act for the encouragement of
learning in this state, and for other purposes therein mentioned; which was read the first time and ordered to
lie on the table.

Mr. Upton Bruce, a delegate returned for Allegany county, Mr. Philemon C. Blake, a delegate returned for
Queen-Anne's county, and Mr. Thomas Bayly and Mr. John Cottman, delegates returned for Somerset county,
appeared, and after qualifying in the mode prescribed by the constitution and form of government, and taking

an oath to support the constitution of the United States took their seats in the house.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Harford county, praying that the damages which may have been sus-
tained by individuals in opening a road from Darlington, to intersect the road leading from Belle-Air to Havre-
de-Grace may be ascertained and levied on the county aforesaid, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. For-
wood, Mr. Montgomery and Mr. Ayres, to consider and report thereon.

Petitions from John Curson Seton and John Merryman, junior, of the city of Baltimore, Nathaniel Washing-
ton, of St. Mary's county, James Cook, of Kent county, and William Stump Boyd, of Allegany county, praying
acts of insolvency, were preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on petitions of a similar nature.

A petition from William Du Bourg, and others, praying an act to authorise a lottery for the purpose therein
mentioned, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Stephen, Mr. Ringgold, Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Shaaff and
Mr. Ellicott, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from John Crow, and others, praying that a law may pass, authorising the levy courts of Anne-
Arundel, Montgomery and Prince-George's counties, to assess and levy a sum of money for the purpose of
erecting a bridge over a branch of Patuxent river, at or near the mill belonging to said Crow, was preferred,
read, and referred to Mr. Van-Horn, Mr. Higgins, Mr. Dorsey, Mr. Watts and Mr. Linthicum, to consider
and report thereon.

A petition from the stockholders in the Baltimore and Reister's-town turnpike road, praying a law may pass
to procure to them a complete right and interest in the stock which they have subscribed, and such laws as will
fully and completely confirm and justify the proceedings of the commissioners who have received the same sub-
scriptions, and that the provisions, so far as they respect the Reister's-town road, which are suspended, and are
not to be carried into execution until the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight, may be
repealed, and a law pass whereby the same may go into immediate operation, was preferred, read, and referred
to Mr. Stephen, Mr. Ringgold, Mr. Harryman, Mr. Ogden, Mr. Contee, Mr. Ellicott and Mr. Montgomery,
to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Joseph Mills, of Saint-Mary's county, administrator de bonis non of Timothy Bowes, de-
ceased, praying to be reimbursed for fourteen and a quarter acres of land, overpaid for by the said Bowes,
was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Hebb, Mr. Watts and Mr. Neale, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Kuhn, from the committee, delivers to the speaker, a bill, entitled, An act confirming the title of
Ignatius Davis to the land therein mentioned; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Montgomery, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:
