RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay unto William Ferguson, or his order, the sum of
fifty-four pounds ten shillings, being the one third part of the purchase money received by the state for land sold
by the agent as confiscated British property, he the said William Ferguson being the discovered thereof.

Which was read.

The message relative to the appointment of directors in the Farmers Bank of Maryland was read the second
time, agreed to, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

Mr. Hodges, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the more effectual pre-
servation of last wills and testaments disposing of real estates; which was read the first time and ordered to lie
on the table.

Mr. M'Pherson, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled. An act to lay out and make pub-
lic a road in Charles county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Bishop, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled. An act for the relief of Ephraim
Furnis and Littleton Furnis, of Worcester county; which was read the first lime and ordered to lie on the table.

On motion, the question was put, That the bill for the regulation of officers fees be referred to the next ge-
neral assembly? Resolved in the affirmative.

The bill annulling the marriage of Benjamin Ferguson and Ruth his wife, of Caecil county, was read the se-
cond time, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

On the second reading of the bill authorising the state under certain restrictions to become a stockholder in
the Susquehanna and Delaware canal, the question was put, That the blank therein be filled up with the words
"one hundred shares?'' Determined in the negative.

The question was then put, That the further consideration of the said bill be referred to the next general
assembly? Resolved in the affirmative.

Mr. Winder, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A supplement to an act, en-
titled, An act for the relief of sundry insolvent debtors; which was read the first lime and ordered to lie on
the table.

A memorial from John Gwinn and James Earle, junior, praying an additional compensation for services re-
quired of them by law as clerks to the general court, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Kerr, Mr. Muir
and Mr. Shaaff, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Sudler, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of William Taylor, praying a law may pass to admit into
the land-office a certificate of resurvey granted unto Joseph Taylor, of Queen-Anne's county, which, from the
obscure situation and ignorance of the said Joseph Taylor, has been neglected to be returned by the time li-
mitted by law; therefore,

RESOLVED, That the register of the land-office for the western shore be authorised and required, to re-ceive
into his office the certificate of resurvey for a tract of land called Willew Enlarged, lying in Queen-Anne's coun-
ty, and dated the nineteenth of February, seventeen hundred and seventy-four, made out lor Joseph Taylor,
and signed by Basil Warfield, deputy-surveyor of Queen-Anne's county, and the same shall lie in the said office
subject to caveat and objections for the time prescribed for oilier certificates, and patent shall issue thereon in
the same manner as upon certificates regularly returned Lo the land-office.

Mr. Watts, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of sundry inhabitants of Montgomery county, praying
the place for holding the election in the fourth election district may be changed, report, that they have had the
same under consideration, and find, from the number of subscribers thereto, that only about one third part of
the voters of said district have applied for the change; your committee are of opinion from this circumstance,
that the legislature cannot with propriety grant the prayer of the petitioners. All which is submitted.

The report on the petition of Thomas Nicholls, of Simon, was read the second time, and the question put,
That the house assent to the resolution therein contained? Determined in the negative.

The bill relating to public roads in Queen-Anne's county, was read the second time, passed, and sent to the
senate by the clerk.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to ascertain and establish a permanent salary to
the governor of this state. ORDERED, That Mr. Ward, Mr. Bruce, Mr. M'Pherson, Mr. Callis and Mr. Sud-
ler, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to authorise the justices of the levy courts of
Anne-Arundel and Prince-George's counties to levy a sum of money for the purpose of building a bridge over
Patuxent river near Queen-Anne. ORDERED, That Mr. B. Hodges, Mr. Hall, Mr. Woodward, Mr, Belt and
Mr, C.. D. Hodges, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.
