On motion, the question was put, That leave be given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to establish a chan-
cery court on the eastern shore of this state, and to repeal such puns of the constitution and form of govern-
ment as may be incompatible with the same? The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:

A petition from Littleton Dennis Teackle and Benjamin Stoddert, directors of the Annacoscia Bridge, praying
a lottery may be authorised for the benefit of said bridge, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Jackson,
MT. Carroll and Mr. King, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Robert Couden Stone, and others, praying for some compensation for money paid by their
father to the state for land to which he never obtained a title, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Little,
Mr. Bruce, Mr. C. Dorsey, Mr. J. E. Spencer and Mr. Shaaff, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. T. Dorsey, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A further supplement to an act;
entitled, An act for the relief of sundry insolvent debtors; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on
the table.
Mr. Steuart, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:
THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Julia Cook, of the city of Baltimore, report, that they
have taken the same into consideration and are of opinion that the prayer therein contained ought not to be
granted, and that the said petitioner have leave to withdraw her petition;

A petition from Samuel Burns, of Dorchester county, praying to be divorced, was preferred, read, and re-
ferred to Mr. Henry, Mr. C. D. Hodges and Mr. Reynolds, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Biggs, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act tor the support of Elias
Thompson and Mary Thompson; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

The clerk of the senate delivers the following message:

By the SENATE, November 10, 1807.
Gentlemen ef the House of Delegates,

WE agree to go into an election of a council to. the governor at the hour mentioned in your message, and
have appointed Mr. Glenn and Mr. Gibson to join the gentlemen named by your house to examine the ballot
boxes. No person is put in nomination by the senate in addition to those mentioned in your message.

Which was read.

The house, having qualified agreeably to the constitution and form of government, proceeded to the choice of
a council to the governor; the ballots being deposited in the ballot box, the gentlemen named to strike retired,
and after sometime returned and reported, that James Butcher, Lewis Duvall, Thomas W. Hall, Reverdy
Ghiselin and James Nabb, had a majority of votes. Whereupon

RESOLVED, That James Butcher, Lewis Duvall, Thomas W. Hall, Reverdy Ghiselin and James Nabb, be, and
they are hereby declared to be, the council to the governor.
Mr. Mitchell, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Archibald Gordon, of Caecil county, late a brave and
worthy soldier in the revolutionary war, report, that they have had the same under consideration, and find from
ample testimony, to wit, from the certificate of Hezekiah Ford, brigadier-general, and from other old and re-
spectable citizens, that he was a citizen of the state of Maryland, and a brave and good soldier during the re-
volutionary war; that he now labours under a very severe disease, the effect of the great exposure, fatigue and
labour, which he experienced in fighting the battles of his country, which secured liberty and independence to
America, from which he is rendered unable, in his advanced age, to procure a support for himself and family;
with this view of his case, your committee, under the impression that it becomes the peculiar duty of a dignified
state, whose treasury abounds with wealth, to provide for the unfortunate and meritorious soldier who spent the
prime and vigour of his life in fighting her battles and in procuring her rights, recommend the following resolu-
tion;
