payments, a sum of money equal to the half pay of a private, as a provision to him in his indigent situation,
now advanced in life, and as a further remuneration to him for those services by which his country has been so
essentially benefitted.

Which was read.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, A further supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the
better regulation of apprentices. ORDERED, That Mr. Seth, Mr. Stevens and Mr. R. Steuart, be a committee
to prepare and bring in the same.

A petition from Anne Willis, and others, of Frederick county, executors of Henry Willis, praying that a
sale made by them to John Giger, of part of the real estate of said Willis, may be confirmed, was preferred,
read, and referred to Mr. J. H. Thomas, Mr. Baer and Mr. Chapman, to consider and report thereon.

A report of the trustees of Frederick county academy was read, and referred to the committee appointed on
the report of the trustees of Charlotte-Hall school.

The clerk of the council delivers a letter from his excellency the governor of Maryland, enclosing a state-
ment of arms which have been delivered out to the militia, and his general orders, in pursuance of the order of
this house; which were read and referred to the committee appointed on the letter from the secretary at war,
making a requisition from this state.

Mr. M'Mahon, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A supplement to the act, entitled,
An act to extend further the powers of the levy court of Allegany county, relative to roads in said county, and
for other purposes; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An additional supplement to the act, entitled, An act for
marking and bounding lands. ORDERED, That Mr. Beall, Mr. Chapman and Mr. Bland, be a committee to pre-
pare and bring in the same.

Mr. Stansbury, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to incorporate the trus-
tees of the Male Free-school of Baltimore; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

The house adjourns until Monday morning 9 o'clock..

MONDAY November 21, 1808.

THE house met. Present the same members as on Saturday. The proceedings of Saturday were react
Mr. S. Thomas and Mr. Ennalls appear in the house.

The speaker laid before the house a letter from the treasurer of the eastern shore, enclosing an account of the
receipts and expenditures of the eastern shore treasury tor the year ending the 31st of October last, also a list
of balances from the treasury hooks, and the treasurer's account current with the state; which was read, and
referred to the committee of claims.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of the upper district of Dorchester county, praying that the place of
holding the election in said district may be changed, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Dennis, Mr. En-
nalls and Mr. Frazier, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Mary Gwinn, of Frederick county, praying that her marriage with Thomas Boylan may be
annulled, and that her marriage with John Gwinn may be confirmed, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr.
J. Thomas, Mr. Sappington and Mr. Baer, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Thomas J. Pattison, late sheriff of Dorchester county, praying further time to complete his
collections, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Griffith, Mr. Ennalls and Mr. Frazier, to consider and
report thereon.

The bill to incorporate the trustees of the Male Free-school of Baltimore, was read the second time, passed,
and sent to the senate by the clerk.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Caroline county, praying a repeal of a law passed last session prohibit-
ing the going at large of swine and geese in the village of Denton, in said county, was preferred, read, and re-
ferred to Mr. Young, Mr. Hughlett and Mr. Bayard, to consider and report thereon.

On motion, the question was put. That leave be given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act for the valuation of
real and personal property within this state? Determined in the negative.

The supplement to the act, entitled, An act to extend further the powers of the levy court of Allegany coun-
ty relative to roads in said county, and for other purposes, was read the second time, passed, and sent to the
senate by the clerk.

The clerk of the senate delivers the following message:

By the SENATE, November 21, 1808.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates,

AS the constitutional term for which one of the senators elected to represent this state in the senate of the
United States, will expire before the next annual meeting of the legislature of Maryland, and it is important
that this state should be, at all times fully represented in the legislature of the United States, we propose, on
