18 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1808.

Thursday next, with the concurrence of your house, to go into a joint ballot for the election of a senator t
represent this state in the seriate of the United States after the third day of March next.

By order, T. ROGERS, clk.
Which was read.

The bill to authorise a lottery to raise a sum of money for building a school-house in the village of Denton,
in Caroline county, was read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

On motion, the question was put, That a committee be appointed to prepare an answer to the message of the
senate relative to the appointment of a senator to represent this state in the senate of the United States? Re-
solved in the affirmative.

The house proceeded to ballot for said committee, and the ballots being deposited in the ballot box, the gen-
tlemen named to strike retired, and after sometime returned and reported, thai Mr. Dorsey, Mr. J. H. Thomas
and Mr. Carroll, were elected.

Mr. Frazier, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A further supplement to the act, en-
titled, An act relating to the public roads in the several counties therein mentioned; which was read the first
time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Seth, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A further supplement to an act, enti-
tled, An act for the better regulation of apprentices; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Hopewell, from the Committe, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the relief of Benjamin
Buckler, of Saint-Mary's county; which was read the first, time and ordered to lie on the table.

A petition from the representatives of Robert Young, late of Saint-Mary's county, deceased, praying that
the real estate of the said Young may be divided or sold, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Hebb, Mr.
Blakistone and Mr. Hopewell, to consider and report thereon.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to alter and abolish all such parts of the consti-
tution and form of government relative to field-officers holding a seat in the general assembly of this state.
ORDERED, That Mr. Stevens, Mr. Beall, Mr. Sanders, Mr. Boyle and Mr. Gale, be a committee to prepare
and bring in the same.

On motion, the question was put, That leave be given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to extend further
the powers of justices of peace in this state? The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:

TUESDAY, November 22, 1808.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.

The bill to make public a road in Prince-George's county, was read the second time, passed, and sent to the
senate by the clerk.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to amend an act, entitled, An act to reduce into
one the several acts of assembly respecting elections, and to regulate said elections. ORDERED, That Mr. Her-
bert, Mr. Stevens, Mr. Dorsey, Mr. Tilghman and Mr. Baer, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

A petition from John Scott, Esquire, chief justice of the court of oyer and terminer and gaol delivery for the
city and county of Baltimore, praying an increase of salary, and that the same may be paid quarterly out of the
treasury, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Bland, Mr. Dorsey, Mr. Stansbury, Mr. R. Steuart and Mr.
Harryman, to consider and report thereon.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act for the appointment by the people of the justices
of the levy courts in the several counties of this state. ORDERED, That Mr. Bennett, Mr. J. H. Thomas, Mr.
Veazey, Mr. J. Thomas and Mr. Bland, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

A petition from Elizabeth Charlton and Mary Sim, of Frederick county, praying commissioners may be ap-
pointed to review the road from Woodsberry to Frederick-town, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Baer,
Mr. Sappington and Mr. J. Thomas, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Jacob Bantz, of the city of Baltimore, praying a special act of insolvency, was preferred,
read, and referred to Mr. R. Steuart, Mr. Boyle an d Mr. Bland, to consider and report thereon.
