770 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 468

In computing the license fees according to the provisions
of this section, there shall be deducted from the total floor
space of such garages a space fifteen feet wide and extending
the entire length or depth of the garage, in all cases where a
space is required by law or any official regulation to be kept
open. In case of garages having more than one floor, a
similar deduction shall be made for each floor. Provided that
nothing in this sub-title shall be construed to repeal any local
ordinance enacted for the public safety.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1st, 1941.

CHAPTER 468.
(House Bill 325)

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 77 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Public Education"
sub-title "Teachers' Retirement System", said new section
to be known as Section 97A and to follow immediately after
Section 97 of said Article, relating to the payment of pen-
sions under certain conditions to former teachers in Fred-
erick and Carroll Counties ineligible for membership in the
current Teachers' Retirement System, and prescribing the
necessary qualifications therefor.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by* the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title
"Public Education", sub-title "Teachers' Retirement System",
said new section to be known as Section 97A, to follow im-
mediately after Section 97 of said Article, and to read as
follows:

97A. Any person who

(1) shall have been a teacher in the public schools of this
State for an aggregate period of twenty-five (25) years or more
prior to June 1, 1927; and who

(2) shall be ineligible for a pension under this sub-title;
and who

(3) shall hold a Life Certificate as such teacher; and who

(4) shall be at least sixty (60). years of age; and

(5) whose record as such teacher shall be without reproach;
and who
