LAWS OF MARYLAND.

1811.

pointed. They
shall give bond,
&c,

Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Ezra
Slifer, George Shafer, John Beterbenner, Conrod
Nichodemus, Robert Chaney and John Waggoner, or
a majority of them, to propose a scheme of a lottery
for raising a sum of money not exceeding two thou-
sand dollars, and to dispose of the tickets thereof;
Provided, The said Ezra Slifer, George Shafer, John
Beterbenner, Conrod Nichodemus, Robert Chaney and
John Waggoner, or such majority of them as shall un-
dertake to act under this law, shall, before the sale or
disposal of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, give
their bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of
five thousand dollars, conditioned that they will well
and truly apply so much of the money arising there-
from within six months after the drawing of said lot-
tery shall commence, as will satisfy the fortunate ad-
venturers for prizes drawn by them, and after deduct-
ing the necessary expenses incurred in said lottery,
shall within six months from the time the drawing of
said lottery shall commence, apply the money raised
by such lottery to the finishing the Lutherian and Pres-
byterian church of Boonsborough, and the building a
school-houses and purchasing a fire engine for the use
of the same, in Washington county.

AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the
duty of the said commissioners, before they act as
such, to lodge the bond made and entered into as afore-
said, in the office of the clerk of Washington county
court, there to be recorded, and upon such bond, or
any office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted
against the obligors therein, or any of them, or their
legal representatives, for any breach or non-compli-
ance with the condition of the same.

An act for the relief of Robert D. Allen, of the
city of Baltimore.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, It has been represented to this Gene-
ral Assembly, by the. petition of Robert D. Allen, of
the city of Baltimore, that he is a native of Ireland,
and emigrated to the United States in the year seven-
teen hundred and eighty-four, and resided in this
country ever since, and has, since his emigration, ac-
quired certain real property in the city of Baltimore,
and that he had not been naturalized before the pur-
chase of said property, agreeably to the law of the
United States, but that he has since been naturalized;
